Donkey Update

Can only afford a donkey for kids. They will bring 2 with them which is great!

For the adults - a man dressed as a donkey and my dad is kindly going to try and make a go-kart that can be pulled by donkey man.

Wonder how the council will feel about that?!

Donkey is back on!!!

For some reason the parks have now said that I can give donkey rides, which is great as I have not been able to think of a better idea.

Donkey Situation

No Donkey!!!
Humpf

Any suggestions Phil? Lottie?

Was thinking a piggy back ride with someone with a donkey head of panto donkey? Or a little cart with someone dressed as a donkey?

Other gestures:
Ice Cream van? No need to hire just tell them where the crowd is!

More games to have there that do not need much supervision to drum up the crowd:
stocks and sponges: http://www.bigfunuk.com/stocks.htm

Perhaps and punch and judy show. hmm i am taking it to far again!

Hopefully it will be made from piping and wood

Extreme simplification

Why not just have brilliant viewfinders? and no game? An small installation. I could spend the budget on brlliant prints on ascetate. Actaully, that's just not enough, not the way that I work. I needs to have more. Hmm Deckchairs?

Which bunting is best I wonder?

Structure Plan

After confiring with a designer I have come to the conclusion that MDF cut to size for the base, would be the cheapest and easiest option(http://www.mdfcuttosize.com/mdf/index.php). This will be acurate measurements, which I need to fit the Octagon shape, will then attach hinges and fix together in two parts. This can then be easily assembled on the day and easily stored.

Next are the poles, trying to find some free standing ones to hire, which can then be decorated and have fabric going up to the middle pole/spire. These again would be great as they are ready made for the day.

Costume Updated

I have decided to try and find some pjamamas to alter for the costumes. It will be cheaper and be more comfortable.

Costumes

I went to the Costume Studio and the bathing auits are very tight! Not sure that this is what I am looking for. Humpf.

Need photographer shrapish for publicity photgraphs.

Waves of fear come over me as I realise how much I am going to spend on various things, the donkey being a huge chunk of that. May have to make some decisions and cut a few things out!

A new stage has begun

Everything has come together in one neat? package. After 2 weeks of dodgy drawings and scribblings, notes and spider diagrams I have produced an actual thing! I have created something which I can now actually do and design and build. I spent ages trying to include all the bits of research and stories by having lots of different activities and stages and clues. Now I have one contained event which can draw on all of the influences...

The Sandcastle game. Names? ''Just like Margate'', ''When you was a boy, you looked out and thought you was at sea'', ''Pick the past'' they need a lot of work...

Arch

Rose arch, alcove = same shape. Arches are a gateway into something, a gateway to the past. Arches on the seafront in Brighton...

Progress

After researching newspapers stories at Tower Hamlets Archives, I have a good grounding of images and nuggets of information about what the park was like and what has happened there. It was a park for community cohesion, tea dances, concerts, a lido, boat rides, fishing, bathing and more!
There is alot of nostalgia surrounding the park and lost history which has literally been concreted over. The park has gone from a pretty place with art deco buidlings and forests to flat green open space with vandalism and a lost community.
Interviews that I have been successful, and a little depressing.

I want to make a non-exclusive peice of work-open to everyone, I want to make something which will connect the users of th epark with the past and how the park was to perhaps make them appreciate it more and think how it could be.

Joshua Sofaer

http://www.joshuasofaer.com/texts/exhibit_sfmoma.html#

''Scavengers''

At the San Francisco Hunt (video) Multi-layered clues with performers. They were written clues to start, then performers reveal the object that needs to be collected. On a very large scale.
Around 50 teams who run around and collect the objects, they get brought back and exhibited by Sofaer. The clues are all inspired and sensitive to the city that it is in (in each of the different cities, Edinburgh etc)

The prize was £2,000/$4,000. The exhibiton at end is a great idea, challenging what modern art is, what can you call art? The objects were only in the museum for a few days making it performative and challenging the object/artefacts that would have been there months/years.

I really like Scavengers - the ordinary objects that are collected become the treasure, displayed in a pleasing way. It is very heavy on the teams/audience participating. If none of the audience were up for it, it wouldn't of worked.

Treasure Hunting

http://www.thisisliveart.co.uk/pdf_docs/DIY5_Report.pdf (p19-22)Yara El-Sherbini

''Hunting for Treasure''
Quite simple-it uses 4 objects from newcastle as the treasure. From this it looks like the main aspect was the collaborative process and looks like it was successful for being a simple idea. Form th pictures looks like it was presented well - uses a mix of techniques, audio, live interactions and food tastings and costumes. Wonder what the cryptic clues where like? Seems like they were hard from looking at the inspiration ''Anax''.

Over complicating the treasure and route could be a barrier. Clues, the look of the peice and the journey that the participants go on is important.

In this document particapants have feedback-when I interview participants get feedback. If I visit groups perhaps I can give a workshop?

Model Boat CLub

Oldest model boat club in the world apparently!

Victorian alcoves taken from London Bridge when it was knocked down and rebuilt in 1830.
